Modern scientific directions

Modern scientific domain of investigations includes the following directions:
 1. Theoretical investigations on the theory of strength, vibrations and buckling of structural elements, including problems of fluid-structure interaction;
 2. Variational methods in solid mechanics and working out of the effective algorithms of local and global optimization;
 3. Multi-purpose and multi-criteria optimization of structures from homogeneous and composite materials under constraints on strength and durability.
 4. Development of the methods of computational mechanics with applications to nanostructures analysis;
 5. The problems of incomplete data in solid mechanics and structural optimization;
 6. Optimization for static and dynamic problems of contact interaction.

History of the Laboratory

The Laboratory of Mechanics and Optimization of Structures was founded in 1983 for solution of temporary optimization problems in aerospace technique and development of analytical and numerical methods in this domain. Prof. N.V. Banichuck was elected at 1983 as Head of the Laboratory and plays this role up to nоw. In the period of 20 years the laboratory performed investigations of large space structure and game problems "rocket-antirocket". This investigations were performing starting from 1967 and up to 1983 in frame of the Department of Control Mechanics, leaded by prof. F.L. Chernousko. Another important field of scientific research of the laboratory was analysis and optimization of structures from composite materials. Scientific activity was concentrated on the problems of computational mechanics and creating of effective numerical algorithms for long period of the laboratory life.

Achievements

Head of the Laboratory professor N.V. Banichuk was elected as Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, Academician of International and Russian Engineering Academies, and now N.V. Banichuck is Academician-Secretary of Russian Engineering Academy for Section "Engineering Mechanics".
